ABOUT
Since 2008, the Hampshire
County Group Insurance Trust has had a worksite wellness promotion
program dedicated to increasing awareness and promoting healthy behavior
among its members.
Over
25% of health care costs are associated with unhealthy lifestyles or
behaviors that can be changed. Addressing some of these unhealthy behaviors
can improve employee health and reduce medical expenses for everyone.
It makes sense for employees, employers, and health insurance companies
to help create environments that support and encourage good health.

Spring
Challenge between April 25 and June 3, 2011,
over 225 municipal employees joined the Spring challenge and together
they logged almost 4,680 hours.
There were 14 teams, ranging in size from 2 to 38 team members. We were
thrilled to see them choosing to exercise in a variety of ways - walking,
running, playing tennis, swimming, gardening, even playing baseball
with family. Many people were excited about exercising as part of a
team and seemed to enjoy the "social connectivity." Each participant
was welcome to do what they could. Just by participating they made an
improvement in their health and life.
Who logged the most hours for the six week Spring
Challenge?
*
The top woman was Melissa Roy from Belchertown. She logged a
total of 7,740 minutes or 129 hours! Amazing!
*
The top man was Thomas Sprecht from Franklin County Technical School.
He logged a total of 7,578 minutes or 126 hours! Remarkable!
